Abstract Using a sample of 462 firms in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Guangdong, we examined the relationship between flexible strategy and firm performance, especially the mediating effects of human resource management function on the relationship between the two variables from the perspective of resource-based view. The main findings from structural equation model are showed as follows. Firstly, flexible strategy has the positive relationship not only with firm performance but also with human resource management function. Secondly, human resource management function has the positive relationship with firm performance. Thirdly, human resource management function has the mediating effects on the relationship between flexible strategy and firm performance.
