Abstract Work stress is a procedural framework which combines various complex and constructional stress issues. On the base of identifying the key factors of business manager’s work stress, these factors can be classified into two different dimensions which called intrinsic stress and extrinsic stress. Through correlation analysis, we found these two types of stress are good stress or bad stress respectively for work performance. Subsequently, the test of mediation effects based on regression analysis indicates that managers’ self-efficacy mediates the relationship between manager’s work stress and performance. It can help us to explain not only why these two types of stress have different performance attributes but also how does this effect happen. The conclusions deducted from this paper can provide some practical strategy for work stress management.
