Abstract The human resource management based competency and the strategic human resource management (SHRM) have been two important fields of HRM Research in recent 30 years. This article analyses the researches of the human resource management based competency and the SHRM, and explains the relations among employee competency, firm competence, firm competitive advantage, firm performance and HRM activities basing on strategic management theories from the view of the firm competence system, and integrates the human resource management based competency and SHRM together.
