Abstract:Donation is the basis for the high-quality development of philanthropy, which affects the role of the third distribution. Based on the CFPS survey data in 2014, 2016 and 2018, this paper examines the impact and mechanism of the Internet use on household donation behavior. The research finds that using the Internet helps to significantly increase the amount of household donations to relatives, others and public. However, the effect of the Internet on the above three types of donations is different. It has the greatest impact on donations to relatives, followed by donations to public, and relatively small impact on donations to others. Using the Internet improves the scale of three types of donations by promoting the accumulation of structural social capital and relational social capital, and promotes families to donate to relatives through the accumulation of cognitive social capital. The research not only deepens the understanding of “Internet + charity”, but also has reference significance for promoting public charity participation.
