A Textual Research on the Commander in Chief in Zhejiang and Southern Zhili Province of Ming Dynasty Who Sent a Diplomatic Correspondence to the Shogun of the Tokugawa Dynasty in 1619
A Chinese mission was sent to Japan in 1619 by the commander in chief in Zhejiang and Southern Zhili province of Ming Dynasty China for the purpose of negotiation about problems of piracy. Though the Chinese mission did not succeed at last, the diplomatic correspondence they took with was transcribed very soon after it was sent to Tokugawa Hidetada, the second shogun of the Tokugawa dynasty. The diplomatic correspondence is very famous in SinoJapanese relations, but the sender of it has not yet been known in both China and Japan. In this paper, I will discuss the sender, who was the commander in chief in Zhejiang province in fact, and make it sure that his real name is WANG Liangxiang.
