Abstract Based on resource dependence theory, the paper analyzes the influence of interlocking directorate with upstream and downstream firms on firms’ adoption of environmental strategies, with an empirical study of the data of 183 Chinese Listed Industrial Companies from 2009 to 2012. The results show that, interlocking directorate has significant positive influence on corporate environmental strategy. Meanwhile, the worse the quality of regional institutional environment, the stronger the positive influence of interlocking directorate on environmental strategy. The research provides empirical supports for resource dependence theory. Interlocking directorate effect of reducing resources availability uncertainty may produce certain constraints to the corporate strategy. The dependence on interlocking directorate affects the corporate environmental strategy choice, and regional institutional environment influences enterprises’ dependence degree on interlocking directorate.
