Abstract Participating in high value-added activities is an important way for farmers to share value-added benefits in the distribution of agricultural products. In this paper, we have studied the influencing factors on farmers engaged in high value-added activities in the distribution of agricultural products with navel orange growers in Southern Jiangxi as an example. The results indicate that the farmers’ behavior of involving high value-added activities depends on the risk attitude and storage technology of the head of a household, the planting scale of a household, the sales of agricultural products during the harvest time, free storage technology training and traffic in the area of farmers. And the farmers’ behavior of involving high value-added activities will constantly change with the change of above factors. On this foundation, the policy suggestions were put forward to promote farmers active participation in value-added activities their value-added benefits share in the distribution of agricultural products.
