Abstract Based on the perspective of technology spillover under the open economy, combined with the effect of technology convergence, this paper empirically tests the different impacts of international trade on China’s Inter-Regional economic efficiency with the panel data from 31 provinces during the period of 1979 to 2010. The regression result shows that: the effects of technology spillover and convergence coexist in our country; the east and middle part of China has crossed the capacity threshold for technological absorption, but the west has not; trade openness in the east does not have a“growth” effect any more, and the middle part still has great potential in improving the economic efficiency by enlarging the trade openness. Our research has provided reference for establishing differentiated inter-regional trade and technology strategies.
