Abstract Zhejiang Merchants and Guangdong Merchants are two large groups of businessmen in Chinese economic development. From the research perspective of Critical Success Factors, the two groups of merchants have similarities in the aspects of work value, business opportunity recognition and seizing, growth pattern and etc. But they are much different in the aspects of resource operation way and the relationship strategy of enterprise of the same industry. To analyze and compare the critical success factors of the two groups and their similarities and differences can have important reference for the future development of small and medium sized enterprises (SMES).
