Abstract:Ferit Orhan Pamuk is a world famous writer for his novels, while his literary thought, especially his unique discourse on the relationship between “literature and politics”, has not aroused attention among Chinese scholars. The paper, consulting Pamuk’s creative practice and comparing extensively with relative literary theories in the history, firstly points out that, restoring the relationship between “literature and politics” to a specific historical context, Pamuk explains the reasons why the third world literature is obsessed with and confused about it; secondly, Pamuk proposes another kind of politics of literature, and discusses the paradox relationship between “literature and politics” in non-Western oppressed societies, which reminds us that we should not ignore the fictional nature of literature in our literary criticism and research; finally, Pamuk redefines the relationship between “literature and politics”, and tries to create a new reading method which transcends the dualistic framework of literature and politics, thus deepening our understanding and research on colonial and post-colonial literature.
