Abstract:Yu Yue, of Zhejiang origin, was a most revered scholar of Confucian classics and Chinese epigraphy during the Late Qing period. Although Yu has been under full examinations, it is too early to say he has been thoroughly studied. By discovering Japanese documents about him, this essay tries to throw new light upon the understanding of his academic status and historical significance.
