Abstract Under the complex and versatile environment, the retailers pay attention to establishing close cooperation relationships with their upstream suppliers. However, the existing research has not reached a consensus on the link between relational embeddedness and the corporate performance. Considering the problems the enterprises met in practice and the existing insufficient research, this paper investigates the effect of relational ties on retailers’ economic performance as well as the moderating effects of environmental uncertainty and contractual inclusiveness from retailers’ perspective. Based on the data of the furniture, computer and its components industries, this paper analyze the hypotheses. The results of the empirical research show: first, relational embeddedness can improve retailers’ economic performance; second, contractual inclusiveness and market turbulence can strengthen the effect of relational embeddedness on retailers’ economic performance; third, competitive intensity decreases the function of relational embeddedness to improve the retailers’ economic performance; while technology turbulence has no significant effect on the above relationship. The results entend the extant research on relational ties and provide helpful managerial implications for enterprises’ practices.
