Abstract Innovation has always been the driving force for the development of enterprises and the whole economy, which arouses a wide range of concern. One of the focus issues in academic circle is factors which have an impact on enterprises’ innovation. A large amount of research has discussed the impact of horizontal market structure on the enterprises’ innovation after the release of “Schumpeter hypothesis”. However, researchers have started to focus on the vertical market structure in recent years, which dues to the change of market power between the upstream and downstream enterprises in certain industries. In particular, with the increase of the buyer power in some industries, researchers begin to pay more attention to the impact of buyer power on the upstream enterprises innovation. In this paper, we reviewed the study of impact of vertical market structure on enterprise innovation at home and abroad, in the hope of providing certain reference to the theoretical study and practice for the relevant areas.
