Abstract This paper conducts an empirical research about the impact of environmental regulation on export trade from the angle of industry heterogeneity, based on the influence mechanism of environmental regulation with 14 industrial sectors in China as data, using a semi logarithmic fixed effect panel data model with variable coefficients. The results of regression estimation show that, environmental regulation can explain the export of China reasonably, and the interactions of environmental regulation efficiency, environmental regulation intensity, average exchange rate, capital-labor ratio, and cost expense profit margin can drive the export growth, but the influence degree and significance level of each variable are significantly different. Efficiency of environmental regulation and intensity of environmental regulation have a significant positive impact on the export of most industrial sectors, but its influence degree and significance level have been weakened by the exchange rate, industr
