Abstract This article has collected data from 226 enterprises and analyzed the factors like the characteristics of employees’ social network, which affect innovation performance. Through analysis, we find out the relation strength and heterogeneity of employees’ social network features. The findings show that knowledge sharing quality has significant effect on innovation performance while enterprises’ IT application maturity has significant moderating effect on their innovation performance. The results also demonstrate that knowledge sharing quality plays a role as a mediating variable between employees’ relationship and innovation performance. Moreover, there is difference between listed companies and unlisted companies when referring to their effects on the innovation performance and the relation between characteristics of employee social network. Our conclusions have examined and proved that strong relation theory is more adapted to Chinese society. This evidence will provide enterprises
