| Measurement and Analysis of China’s Regional Technical Efficiency with Stochastic Frontier Models: From the View of Financial Institution Reform |

Abstract Based on the stochastic models of Battese and Coelli (1992,1995), we first measured the technical efficiency covering China’s 30 regions from 1992 to 2009 with balanced panel data from the view of fiscal expenditure structure and financial institution reform. Then we made a detailed statistical description on the technical efficiency level and its tendency. In addition, we analyzed the regional disparity of the technical efficiency and its tendency. The results show that there exists technical inefficiency in the regional economy and the regional technical efficiency is low on the whole. The efficiency disparity among the provinces and the efficiency disparity between the three regions are all reduced at the initial stage and widen continuously taking the mid 1990s as the turning point. But within the three regions the efficiency disparity among the provinces is reduced.
