Abstract In the perspective of urban mass transit construction, this paper takes Shanghai as an example to study the influence mechanism of urban mass transit on the formation and coordinated development of tourism core-peripheral structure in eight aspects including the gradual convergence of tourism development level, the complementary and coordinated spatial development, the diminished accessibility difference, the diminished tourist products price disparity between urban core and peripheral tourism areas, the gradually developed rural tourism, the integration of urban mass transit and tourism land use, the increased residents and recreational demand in urban peripheral tourism areas, and the formation of tourism belts based on urban mass transit.
