Abstract With regard to the merchant employee system, the traditional view point held that the system is a historical transitional forms of organization which perished after Industrial Revolution. Through analysis on the nature, historical source and modern variantion of the merchant employee system, this article insist that the merchant employee system is a kind of organization innovation based on deepening division of labor and cost saving which have great competitive and widely applicable. Hence, this article analysis three kinds of variants of newly merchant employee system, that is sub-contracting system in rural areas, flexible production system in Japan and brand rules control.
