Abstract This paper reviews the 70 articles on retailing published in Journal of Business Economics during 2003-2008. Three methods are reviewed: research approach, data collection method and statistical tool. This study indicates that theoretical exploration and quantitative research are two most frequently used approaches; unidentified sources, literature, secondary data and questionnaire survey are most frequently used data collection methods; regression and descriptive statistics are two most frequently used statistical tools. There are obvious differences in methodology between China and international advanced level. By analyzing changes in trend over time, China's retailing research is being improved. In the end some suggestions are given.
