Abstract Current strategy researches pay relatively little attention to in-depth analyses of the firm’s strategic implementing tactics and their performance implication. According to resource-based view and competence-based view, strategic implementing tactics are important organizational processes and behavioral modes that link strategic planning and organizational outcomes, and the effective use of them is a key path for the firm’s acquiring and preserving competitive advantage. Based on existing researches, this paper discusses the relationship among strategic implementing tactics, environmental uncertainty and strategic implementing performance systematically. An empirical investigation of 249 private SMEs shows that cultural tactics has significantly positive impact on strategic implementing performance, environmental uncertainty moderates the relationship between participative tactics and strategic implementing performance.
