Abstract Traditional economic analysis is generally conducted from the perspective of manufacturers on the impact of performance improvement of the chain. However, it is undeniable that, with the improvement of terminal constraints of large retailers, and the enhancement of market power of large retailers through a variety of situations, the innovation in service and profit management has made a great contribution to the performance improvement in the industry chain. This paper attempts to build an integrated retailer and manufacturer empirical model for an empirical analysis of the role of the industrial chain performance improvement in large retailers. The results show that the profitability, efficiency and the level of retailer specialization are essential for better industrial chain performance. Therefore, there is urgent need to accelerate retailer organizational innovation, promote the integration of retailing and manufacturing, optimize retailer environment, improve the industrial chain
