Abstract Unique institutional setting and support from home country, asset-seeking ODI in the developed countries, diverse transnational business pattern, extensive business scope are the main characters of MNC from emerging economies (EE-MNCs). Focusing on the formation and evolution of EE-MNCs, scholars put forward different views. Currently there are four representative kinds of views about EE-MNCs: the extension of OLI paradigm based on institution theory, LLL framework based on resource view, imbalance theory based on firm growth theory and Y-model which is put forward by integrated diverse perspective. Trends of theoretical research in the field of EE-MNCs include: the extant theory’s adjustment and integration, combination between case study and systemic research, convergence between economics paradigm and managerial paradigm, using theories from other disciplines for reference.
