Abstract The role of trust in leader on performance was the focus of organizational behavior. However, the functional mechanism was not clear. From the characteristic-& relationship-based perspective, a mediation model was offered to investigate the relationships between two types of trust in leaders and task performance of the employees. The results of 287-dyad data indicated that cognition- and affect-based trust in leaders were positively associated with task performance of employees. In addition, the relationship between cognition-based trust and task performance was fully mediated by ability-to-focus, but the relationship between affect-based trust and performance was only partially mediated by affective commitment.
