Abstract: The “getting old before getting rich” phenomenon in China has frightened the world. This is largely due to people's lack of understanding about the historical root of this circumstance and the missing of a fair and appropriate elderly-support system in this country. In fact, “getting old before rich” is the result of the Chinese health miracle, which reflects the effect of the people-centered socialistic health care system with Chinese characteristics. The huge aged population in China today is brought about by the life expectancy revolution after the foundation of the People's Republic of China, and the health miracle is a great achievement of the health care system under the socialism with Chinese characteristics, which was in alignment with China's fundamental realities at that time. The health miracle in China successfully answered “the Question of China” in the Chinese path to modernization in terms of aging. To realize “the Governance of China”, the success in old-age support, a socialistic supporting system for the aged in accordance with China's current realities needs to be established. This system must be people-centered rather than capital-centered. We should learn from the successful experience of the health miracle as well as the painful lessons of the marketization of the medical system, and rebuild a fair and appropriate old-age support system. A better combination of a facilitating state, a loving family, a caring community and an effective market is the key to the high-quality development of aging undertakings.
