The impact of changes in buyer power on the innovation of upstream manufacturers has been an important issue discussed in the academic community. This article uses data from 247 listed companies in 9 industries in China from 2008 to 2016 to examine the influence of buyer forces on upstream manufacturers' innovation activities. The study finds that: The influence of the buyer's power on the technology innovation of the vendor is related to the seller's power, and the seller's power is significantly positively regulating the relationship between the buyer's power and the manufacturer’s innovation. On average, the buyer's power has a significant positive effect on the company’s technological innovation. This conclusion is still valid after debugging samples and replacing variables. Further research finds that, on average, the influence of the buyer on technological innovation varies with the initial level of innovation of the manufacturer, the level of development of the city, and the scale of the city itself. The higher the initial level of innovation, the higher the level of urban development and the smaller the scale, the stronger the buyer’s influence on the upstream manufacturers'technological innovation.
