There is reverse translation in translating western sinology works into Chinese. Reverse translation shows how translation cannot be separated from interpretation in a paradoxical way. The Chinese culture has gained worldwide significance through translation. Reverse translation shows that the Chinese culture is cross-cultural and cosmopolitan. The translated Chinese classics have been turned into part of the western culture in spite of their Chinese origin. There is a significant tension between the Chinese translation and the Chinese classics, which provides us with some thoughts on how to develop the modern interpretation of Chinese classics.
