Based on western narrative theory, this paper aims at a textual analysis of the modern British novelist Joseph Conrad’s short fiction Amy Foster in terms of narrator, narrative focalization, and narrative time, and holds that Conrad is a uniquely gifted writer in his handling of subject matter, narrative method, characterization, and ethical orientation, thus having a profound impact on the modernist British novel.
