Abstract:This paper analyzes the relationship between outward foreign direct investment and domestic economic development based on entropy and dissipative structure theory. Through setting up a grey relation entropy model between the two, we empirically analyze the relationship of the two with data from 2003—2010. The results showed that, before 2006, outward foreign direct investment didn’t have positive relationship with economic development, but since 2007, outward foreign direct investment continually has encouraged the domestic economic development. One possible reason for this phenomenon is that the early outward foreign direct investments were mainly policy-driven, while the actual operations were not mature, and lack of experiences. Chinese enterprises should pay attention to both quality and quantity of foreign direct investment, bring in the negative entropy, and continuously promote domestic economic progress.
