Abstract:The characteristics of the model of Taiwan modernization after 1949 may be summarized into the following two aspects: First, economically, Kuomintang authority adopted “pragmatic economic policy”, i.e., “to adopt the most suitable measures in the most opportune moment”, which includes respecting the regime of market and exercising the economic functions of government. Actually, this special policy has already created a lot of “transplantable experiences”; Secondly, politically, responding to the inside and outside changes, Taiwan has experienced the process of democratization and transferred from authoritarian polity to “electoral democracy”, under the leadership of Chiang Ching-kuo and his party. Compared with Kuomintang, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), as the ruling party for 8 years, has performed badly in economic, politics and ethics.
