Abstract The empirical studies on the relationship between political skills and leadership effectiveness of are still in the preliminary exploration stage, little literatures have focused on the relationship of these two factors and the moderation effect of subordinates’ ingratiation in regard to high political atmosphere of state-own enterprises. With the model of the relationship between leader political skills and leader effectiveness in state-owned enterprises, this study assumes that the state-owned enterprise leadership political skills will be a positive impact on the leadership effectiveness, the subordinate’s ingratiation making the positive influence more significant. Through 463 employees from 27 state-owned enterprises in Shaanxi Province, this study shows no positive influence between leader political skills and leader effectiveness. Some practical skills show no or negative influence to leader effectiveness. At the same time, the empirical research tells that positive adjustment effect is significant.
