Abstract From the traits view, this paper develops an entrepreneurial opportunity identification model. By adopting the methodology of binary and multinomial logit regression, this research tests the influence of the personality traits, including innovation orientation, achievement motivation, self-efficacy, locus of control, tolerance for ambiguity and autonomy, on the opportunity identification approaches of search, discovery, and emergence, with America cross-section data from PSED Ⅱ. The result demonstrates that achievement motivation, locus of control, tolerance for ambiguity and autonomy do affect entrepreneurs’ choice of opportunity identification approaches in respect of choosing between search and discovery as well as between discovery and emergence.
