Abstract The research in online community participators’ motivation reveals that, there is a crowding-out effect between the intrinsic motivation and the extrinsic motivation. However, the solvers could act as the hobbyist and economic reward pursuer in crowd-sourcing, a new problem solving mode via online community participators. It becomes an interesting research object concerning online community participation. This research explores constitutes and their relationships of solvers’ motivation. Result shows that solvers’ motivation can be divided into intrinsic, extrinsic and internalized extrinsic motivation, and they are mutually reinforcing each other. Our research may contribute to literature in motivation and crowd-sourcing, and offer business implication in making crowd-sourcing incentive strategies.
