Abstract This paper aims to measure the distribution of China’s urban household consumption inequality. First, based on the survey data about China’s inter-provincial urban household, the paper measures inequality indexes of urban households’ consumption and income in China. Second, the paper uses adaptive kernel density estimation and relative distribution methods to simulate distribution and trend of urban households in two stages. The paper shows that urban households’ consumption inequality is more than income inequality; with the development of China’s economy, overall level of China’s urban households’ consumption has been improved, the proportion of households in middle and high consumption level gradually increase, especially, the proportion of high-spending households increases more significantly, and consumption inequality is showing a growing trend.
