Abstract SMTEs (small and medium tourism enterprises) make up a majority of enterprises in tourism industry, and play a very important role in providing employment opportunities in China. The paper analyzes the development status quo and main problems of SMTEs in China, and draws lessons of development of SMTEs from EU (European Union). It sets forth the development countermeasures of SMTEs in China from internal and external factors such as the SMTEs’ ability to stay in season and the government supportive policies.
