Abstract It is necessary to timely acquire successive and developmental information about studying population when we research social and economic phenomena. Successive statistical survey is such a basic method. This paper studies and compares different methods of successive survey, and summarizes successful experiences about applying successive survey from developed countries. According to existing problems and shortages from the system of statistical survey in China, this paper puts forward a successive system of statistical survey which would be carried out by some standards and institutions. Therefore, it is easy to reflect successive and developmental information about studying population, and the accuracy of data from statistical survey would be improved.
