Abstract The frame of modular development with the basic driving forces, basic content and performance integrated by multinational corporations demonstrates that the external driving forces consist of the formation of transnational environment, the liberalization of trade and investment as well as the widespread application of advanced technology, and the internal one is the economy of modularity in supply and demand. The Modular development of MNCs can be shown by the global modular value chain with modulation of capability factors and modulation of organizational structure. The performance of modular development of multinational corporations can be prominently displayed by the higher efficiency of utilizing and transferring the existent core competencies, the higher efficiency of developing and acquiring marginal core competencies as well as the strengthened ability of coping with risks of transnational operations.
