Abstract This paper summarizes and analyzes various definitions of “business area”. Based on a questionnaire survey about urban consumers’ shopping behavior in China, this paper presents the general rules that affect urban consumers’ shopping behavior, analyzes the prevalence of unscientific and irregular expression on “business area”, and puts forward some suggestion for scientifically and regularly defining “business area” and “business zone”.
