Abstract Industrial clusters have been a very hot research field in Economic Geography, Spatial Economics and Regional Economics since 1990s. Scholars from China and other nations in the world have done many researches on theory and practice of the industrial clusters. This paper, which is very different from the other review literatures whose focus are usually on the contexts of industrial clusters, will give a systematic literature review from two novel perspectives, research methodologies selection and research tools application, based on the evolution of the industrial clusters theories and it’s research progress. The main purpose of this paper is to classify these literatures and to form a whole research framework by reviewing the existing research methodologies and tools. We also hope that this study will bring some new thoughts for the existing or potential researchers.
