Abstract: Import provides a vital link within global industrial chain and supply chain,which has important strategic significance to ensure the security of China's economic development.Based on the firm-level micro data of China,this paper empirically analyzes the impact of overseas experience of top management team (TMT) on firms- import behavior and its mechanism.The results show that:(1)TMT's overseas experience significantly improves the probability of importing and scale of enterprises,and information mechanism and innovation mechanism are important channels.(2)TMT's overseas experience will frequently adjust the import product portfolio and import market portfolio,and play a role by promoting more domestic enterprises to engage in import and promoting the incumbent enterprises to import new products,but the impact on the import intensive margin is not significant.(3)The supply chain shocks enhances the effect on the import of the TMT's overseas experience.(4)The import promotion effect is stronger for executive teams with foreign members and overseas work experience.TMT's overseas experience has a stronger promoting effect on the import of capital goods and strategic industries.The conclusion provides policy guidance for China to attract international talents and ensure import security.
