Abstract: Under the background of the deep integration of digital technology and traditional industries and the acceleration of the construction of new development pattern, it is of great significance to explore the impact of digital technology on the efficiency of retail industry for promoting the highquality development of circulation service industry. Based on the data of digital technology development and retail industry development in China, this paper empirically examines the impact of digital technology on retail industry efficiency and its mechanism. The research shows that digital technology can significantly improve the efficiency of retail industry, which is still valid after a series of endogeneity tests and robustness tests. The results of heterogeneity tests show that digital technology has significantly differentiated effects on the improvement of retail industry efficiency in different regions of China, and the promotion effect on the improvement of retail industry efficiency in the central and western regions and northern regions is more significant than that in the eastern and southern regions. The mechanism test finds that digital technology can further promote the efficiency of retail industry by accelerating the process of marketization and enhancing the efficiency of logistics.
